This petition is for those who signed up to take the USABO Opens but were unable to take the test. Whether they did not register on AoPS, because the platform had issues, or due to external circumstances such as power outages, many could not complete the registration for a substantial portion of the time frame or take the exam. Many of us have studied for months and years in preparation for this exam, and for some of us it may be the last chance we have to take USABO or the most crucial time in our academic career for this test. Some of us really looked forward to the USABO Opens, and this year's circumstances have been a devastating blow. This is an appeal to the CEE to give us a chance and set up a make up Opens test or make Semifinals open to everyone. We believe that the finalists selection should be merit-based, and excluding large numbers of us from taking the semifinals may prevent selection of optimal candidates. By giving us a chance, we believe it will make the biology community stronger. We love the USABO so much, and it is something we are all very passionate about; we really appreciate the CEE and thank them for all the effort they took to make the 2023 USABO happen. Thank you.
