GIVE US FULL REFUNDS. We should've known it was a TV. Miku Expo 2024 NA (OFFICIAL)
The Issue
**THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, OFFICIAL, GLOBAL/NATIONWIDE and FIRST PETITION MADE FOR THE MIKU EXPO 2024 NA EVENTS**
In 2024, Vocaloid fans in North America were overjoyed to find out that Hatsune Miku, a virtual idol, was going on tour overseas for the first time in years, which was being hosted by the anime streaming company Crunchyroll LLC.
All Vocaloid fans who bought tickets to the tour spent hundreds of dollars. Not only for the tickets, but for hotels and plane flights if they needed to. Everyone's hard-earned money was then thrown away when the first photo was posted of the Vancouver Miku Expo show, where it was a giant LED TV in the middle of the stage. We were not informed, or at least CLEARLY told that it would be a TV, and not the signature, iconic hologram. People paid to see THE Miku Expo, NOT a TV.
We all deserve full refunds for the shows that had a TV and not a hologram. As of right now, none of us know if the tour that will be held in Europe after the North America tour, will have this TV on the stage. We also demand that for future Miku Expo concerts, the Miku Expo team CLEARLY STATES if there will be a hologram OR the LED TV before purchasing tickets. Therefore we can make our own decisions if we want to see a TV or the hologram. We also demand an EXPLANATION as to why they decided to change it without telling us.
Besides the LED TV, there are other issues that need to be discussed. They were clearly not prepared merch-wise, having very little stock online, and that their in-person merch booths. At the Portland show on April 6th, there was only 95 glowsticks for sale. 95 glowsticks for a stadium of people.
Another minor issue is their band. They covered the view of the band, which is disrespectful to them and it was never like that before.
Something else that needs to be said is that for people in the front row for the tour, the VERY front, got a beautiful view. Obviously only a handful of people got front row tickets, but a majority had tickets above the screen, on the side of the screen, and way in the back. And their view looked a lot like this.
Another issue that rose on April 8th, is the chaos of the lines in San Jose. People on X (Twitter) state that the line split into two, and that people who have been waiting in line for hours are NOT getting into the venue after waiting, and instead, people who show up as doors are opening are getting in. People also say the line is a "safety issue". The show in San Jose also APPEARED to have an adjusted stage and screen, that blends in very well. Once the show started, lights lit up the stage and revealed yet another LED TV.
Yet another problem that was at the San Jose show was the lack of ADA (The Americans with Disabilities Act) service. This tweet and the replies under it state how "no one was controlling anything" and non-disabled people sat in the seats that were supposed to be for people with mobility issues.
People have emailed Crunchyroll LLC and Crypton Future Media about this, only getting generic prewritten emails as seen in this reddit post, containing screenshots of both companies' responses. This shows that they either; don't care about their customers, OR they are in the making of a public announcement. We don't know if that is the case yet.
Hatsune Miku will also be performing at Coachella 2024. Rumors have speculated that the real hologram/clear screen is there at Coachella. However, this rumor has now been proven false as this Coachella Independent article has been edited on April 9th, to remove the word "hologram". It was also shown that Hatsune Miku performing at Coachella was definitely not a hologram screen. This is not only extremely disappointing, but a bad representation of Hatsune Miku for the people attending Coachella. All because of this LED TV, it has given Vocaloid as a whole a bad reputation.
On April 14th, the Miku Expo show in Arizona experienced a dead pixel on the TV screen. That's extremely unprofessional on the team's behalf.
On May 13th, the Miku Expo NA show in Mexico got a lot of backlash because of the merch difference. Canada & the USA got all of the Miku Expo NA merch, however Mexico only sold 8 of the items that were on the Canada & US list. The stock of merch that Mexico got did not include glowsticks. The redditor who reposted these screenshots suggests that it "looks like the left over scraps from the USA event".
If we let this slide, it will happen again. It happened once during MikuPa in 2011, where they got a lot of backlash, and they didn't do it again until now. We have to make it clear that we will not put up with this.
