Give The Banana Splits IP a more prominent role in the WB lineup
The Issue
“Tra-La-La! La-La-La-La!”
Those lyrics are bound to spark memories in the minds of many generations. From the people who were around to see “The Banana Splits Adventure Hour” premiere in 1968, people who were alive to see the countless reruns, comics, shorts, and 2008 reboot, and even to people who got to see The Banana Splits hit the horror genre in 2019 with the premiere of “The Banana Splits Movie”. It goes without saying that the characters of Fleegle the Beagle, Drooper T. Lion, Bingo the Orangutan, and Snorky the elephant have made a long lasting impact on pop-culture. However, today, it is rare that they even get so much as a mention.
A planned 2016 reboot of the original series? Cancelled. A sequel to the 2019, which mind you was perfectly set up at the end of the film? Never even conceptualized.
About the best The Banana Splits have seen the past few years is a brief cameo in a few episodes of the 2021 television series Jellystone, which, in one of the episodes they are featured in they don’t even have so much as a speaking role.
Not to mention, the original series hasn’t even been released on streaming. A few VHS releases, and a DVD set exclusive to an area outside of the United States are the best we have officially.
These characters have made a big impact on television history, and are important Hannah Barbera characters with the likes of Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, and Scooby-Doo. Not to mention the original 1968 series helped kickstart the careers of Sid and Marty Krofft, who would go on to create TV shows such as H.R. Pufnstuf. Given these points, it is extremely disheartening to see them being tossed to the side like this.
Help our fandoms voice be heard and help us in our cause to give The Banana Splits more representation from Warner Brothers.
