Give Sticky Fingers a Fair Go: Stand Up to Cancel Culture.

Give Sticky Fingers a Fair Go: Stand Up to Cancel Culture.
The issue
Its time to move on from the tiresome cancel culture which has plagued Sticky Fingers for too long.
Sticky Fingers are a famous and iconic Australian band with 2.4 million monthly listeners, and over a billion streams on Spotify. In recent years they have been vilified by subsections of the media over allegations arising from a handful of drunken incidents involving their lead singer, Dylan Frost, which occurred more than 5 years ago. As a result, the band have been labelled racist, homophobic/transphobic and violent by a number of music journalists which write for a number of culture focussed publications. Additionally, Sticky Fingers have been blacklisted/cancelled from the Triple J youth radio station which played their songs on a high frequency before the alleged controversies.
Sticky Fingers band, and in particular their lead singer, Dylan Frost, have made numerous public statements to address these controversies, apologising for any offence caused and making clear that they are completely against racism, homophobia/transphobia and violence. These apologies seem more credible given that Dylan Frost is of Māori descent and was raised by his mother and her female life partner in a same sex relationship. Dylan himself has admitted that he is a diagnosed bipolar schizophrenic who has suffered from substance abuse and behavioural issues for many years. Additionally, none of the allegations against Dylan Frost have ever progressed beyond social media slander and he has never been charged with any offences in relation to any of the alleged incidents in question.
Despite all this, a spiteful subsection of the media, and a handful of disgruntled and vocal commentators on Twitter have decided that they are the moral arbiters of the Australian music scene and have done everything they can to slander the Sticky Fingers band. This issue has come to prominence again lately with Sticky Fingers being dropped from Bluesfest 2023 after the same handful of spiteful journalists have chosen to amplify a minority of angry voices on Twitter to fit their own ideological agender. This whole episode stinks of ideologically motivated cancel culture and is a shameful betrayal of the Australian music scene. They ignore the fact that Sticky Fingers are an excellent Australian band with millions of fans who deserve a second chance.
Sign this petition to stand up and send a clear message to the cancel culture brigade of second rate journalists and fringe voices on Twitter who have hijacked the Australian music scene. Sticky Fingers deserve another chance to show the nation that they are a quality Australian band and do not deserved to be permanently cancelled for a small number of mistakes in the past. Don’t let an ideologically motivated rabble of sub-par music/cultural journalists dictate what the Australian public is allowed to enjoy. Its time to move on.
