WOW what an incredible start we’ve had.
A HUGE thank you for signing our petition....we really appreciate it.
Every signature is crucial, as it clearly shows that you care and want to bring about a positive change to protect our seals.
We are heading towards 37,000 signatures, which is an incredible figure having launched our Give Seals Space campaign just a few weeks back.
Every signature is a voice for our precious seals.
That voice needs to get louder and stronger and we are committed, with your support, to ensure this happens.
We are not asking for much in this Campaign.
We are merely asking the UK Government to revisit a decision they made back in December 2025 where they rejected expert advice to legally protect our seals from disturbance.
Let me put this into context…. would you dismiss expert medical advice which could significantly improve and prolong your life?
Probably not!
Would you want an experienced, knowledgeable and skilful pilot flying you and your family to some far away destination?
Probably yes!
Then why did our UK Government dismiss the advice from people who possess such wisdom, experience, knowledge and skills?
So, who were these wise people?
The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) are the only statutory nature advisor to all four countries of the UK. They provide robust scientific evidence and advice to help decision makers turn science into action for nature to guide the UK on a sustainable path.
They work across land and sea with partners throughout the UK, the UK Overseas Territories, the Crown Dependencies and around the world.
For over 30 years, their trusted expertise, dedication and skills have underpinned nature conservation and recovery.
The other was, a House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee that published a report titled ‘Protecting Marine Mammals in the UK and Abroad’. Chaired by Sir Robert Goodwill MP, the cross-party committee reported (Page 29 Paragraph 4) that:
‘We strongly endorse the JNCC’s recommendation that seals be added to the list of species in Schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act to protect them from reckless disturbance, and wish to see this implemented as soon as practicable’.
We applaud both Committees for highlighting that seals are not an adequately protected species.
In this first update of many, I just wanted to ask you to share our petition far and wide to friends, family, work and leisure colleagues so that we accrue as much support as we can.
But there is also another way to get us noticed.
If you visit the Seal Alliance website, we have created a template letter which you can send to your local Member of Parliament asking for their support.
All you need to do, is to insert your details into the template and send it.

As I said earlier, every signature is a voice and we are hoping the Government will hear and see that we want them to listen to us and to the experts.
