Give pedestrians the green walk signal automatically at traffic lights in Victoria.

The issue

Please give pedestrians the green walk signal automatically at traffic lights in Victoria.

Every day people waste time waiting to cross the road at intersections when they don't need to.  People shouldn't have to press a button to get a green walk signal (the green man) in parallel to the green light for vehicles.

A person two metres from the button when the lights change shouldn't be legally restricted to walk across the road. They shouldn't be expected to wait for a full cycle of traffic lights for another chance to walk.

The current system:
- encourages law breaking (walking on the red signal)
- discourages walking in general
- frustrates people who are forced to wait around in the rain, hot sun, cold wind when there is no need.

This situation can be solved by giving people the green walk signal when they are parallel to drivers who have a green light.

Traffic lights being mostly remote controlled can be easily programmed to do this. This solution does not take major changes to the traffic infrastructure.

This a simple solution to help people get out an walk.
