GIVE MY SON A CHANCE TO GET INTO A SPECIALTY HOSPITAL THAT SPECIALIZES IN STROKE RECOVERY
The Issue
My Son, Timothy Williams, Jr., had a stroke in March of 2024, where he recovered within a week. On April 17, 2024, I took him back to the hospital where he was diagnosed as having another stroke. At that time we were told that his right carotid artery was blocked with plaque and it was too dangerous to clear it and put stints in. He was given extensive PT both inpatient and subsequently outpatient PT for about a year. He never completely regained the use of his left side because of the restricted blood flow to the right side of his brain. We were told again and again that the other arteries were working. I questioned as to weather those arteries would be overworked. Thus, he had limited mobility but could speak and walk. However, he was not able to work which was to drive a tow truck. During the year, he had mini strokes and a couple of seizures. Still no answer as to unclogging the artery and putting stints in to improve blood flow.
On July 10, 2025, my son was taken to the ER because of numbness in the right leg. He was admitted and as of today, 8/17/2025, he still remains hospitalized. He is in worse shape now than when he was admitted on July 10th, and we were informed that he experienced another stroke while in the hospital. We have continuously gotten conflicting reports from the various hospital doctors. One day, a doctor gives us hope, the next day another doctor destroys all hope. He has had feeding tubes, feeding tube surgically put into his stomach, and now a tracheotomy. He is not talking, but does respond to my voice, his kids' voices, as well as others; and opens his eyes. He has on several occasions sat up on his own and even crossed his legs. None of the doctors have witnessed these important tasks; however, the ICU Nurses have seen improvement in my son. He is trying! We were told that the ventilator was a backup and shown how he is breathing on his own most of the time. He has periods of Apnea.
It is still my hope that we will be able to get Tim into a Transitional hospital sooner than later.
My deepest, heartfelt Thanks To God and my sincere thanks to all of you.
