The issue

We are urgently calling on decision-makers to pause the planned withdrawal of life-sustaining ventilation for baby Liam, a 7-month-old child currently receiving care at Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney.

Liam has been diagnosed with SMARD1, a rare neuromuscular condition. His family is not asking for miracles. They are asking for time, transparency, and the opportunity to seek further independent medical opinions and explore all available care options before any irreversible decision is made.

The family has been informed that Liam’s ventilation support is scheduled to be withdrawn on 23 June. They are desperately seeking additional time to obtain independent medical reviews and investigate all possible alternatives, including home ventilation support, private care arrangements, and any treatment or care opportunities that may exist elsewhere.

We respectfully ask the hospital and relevant health authorities to:

Pause any planned withdrawal of life support while further reviews are obtained.
Facilitate access to independent medical opinions.
Work collaboratively with Liam’s family to explore all available care pathways.
Ensure transparency, compassion, and procedural fairness in decisions affecting Liam’s future.
Every child deserves the opportunity for all reasonable options to be considered. Every family deserves confidence that no stone has been left unturned before a permanent and irreversible decision is made.

Please sign and share this petition to support Liam and his family during this critical time.

Time is running out. Liam needs your support now.
