With racism getting worse, and many black Americans worried that it will continue to worsen throughout their lives we must do everything to stop it. That brings me to man who has not been given the spotlight, or credit they deserve. The man I am talking about is Lewis Latimer an African American inventor. His inventions were pivotal and have impacted your life today. If you have a air-conditioner it was most likely designed after Latimers design in 1886 although if you google the inventor of the air-conditioner you will see a white man named Willis Carrier credited with the first "modern" air-conditioner, but if you see an image you will see a large steampunk looking contraption that does not resemble a modern air-conditioner at all, and even worse yet it was invented in 1902 which is 16 years after Latimers design.

If we dont give Latimer the credit he deserves for his many inventions not only will it tarnish him and prevent his story from being shared but it may impact the black community. As with the many black people in history, black inventors are rarely recognized for what they acomplished. Things like this allow racism to continue as a white men are still falsely credited for his inventions.

We cannot stand idly by as this continues. We must change this and give him the credit he earned. Racism and discrimination must be stopped and one of the best ways is showing how we have benefited from the actions of black people and how they are in no way shape or form lesser then white people.
