The Issue

                  Deishas Law

This petition began with a heartrending personal story. My daughter, Deisha Guzman, aged 20, was taken from this world in the most tragic way. Her life was abruptly ended and ruled  homicide,  by her then boyfriend, Christopher Jordan of Madera California, a registered gun owner, who failed to adhere to the fundamental principles of gun safety. Despite his severe negligence leading to a fatal consequence, leniency was hinted at because he was a registered gun owner. This is an unacceptable excuse. It is essential that registered gun holders who understand the rules carry heavier responsibility, rather than leniency, when those rules are broken.

California has some of the toughest gun laws in the United States, but there is a disturbing loophole. The current law does not deal effectively with registered gun owners neglecting safety rules, which can lead to tragic events. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that there were 2,945 firearm related deaths in California in 2018, a substantial number of which were preventable with proper adherence to gun safety rules.

Deisha’s untimely death should not be in vain. Stricter enforcement and punishment for rule violations by registered gun owners is the way forward. By raising our voices together, we can make a difference and prevent future tragedies. Holding gun owners to a higher standard of responsibility is not only reasonable, it is a crucial part of protecting lives.

Stand with us in creating a safer society for our children. Demand stricter accountability measures for gun owners who violate safety rules. Sign this petition for justice for Deisha and many more victims like her.
