The Issue

sign this petition and advocate for my fathers parole hearing to the CDCR board.

Many victims to the three strikes movement of the 90s and 80s still sit in prison with hopes of one day receiving even a chance at freedom. Many spend years working towards reform and preparing themselves to reintegrate back into a society not at all like the one they were taken from originally. My father, Cesar Madera, being one of many inmates who work continuously towards rehabilitation and the ability to become a positive force in a world that he’s watched through bars. I ask you to help me give my father a voice. He’s received an AA through his own efforts and has certification in drug counseling and rehabilitation. My father has been nearly 20 years sober and now spends his days helping over prisoners do the same. He does in a very similar way he helped me grow up, through the gift of understanding, patience, and teaching his fellow inmates tools they can practice to communicate and navigate their feelings/experiences. There are people who deserve to be behind bars, who commit atrocities and hurt people, my father was a young man who needed counseling and drug rehabilitation, 24 years is more than long enough. May you hear his story and feel moved to help my dad feel heard in a country that actively ignored him
