Help Us Keep Our Tiny Homes!

Help Us Keep Our Tiny Homes!
The Issue
During the COVID pandemic, our family started a new business building tiny homes, and renting them out on Airbnb in the City of Alachua, Florida.
Now, 2 years later, we have 12 tiny homes on Airbnb in Alachua County, Florida. Our business employees local citizens and youth, giving them an opportunity to make an income. One of our main workers, a 21 year old student at Santa Fe, was working at the mall for $8.50 an hour and living in a broken down RV on a friends property when we met him. Now after working with us for the past 2 years, he is making $20 per hour, was able to go back to college, afford an apartment in Gainesville, and can even afford to travel around the country and internationally with friends and family. One of our partners almost had to foreclose on their property, but with the income that our tiny houses provided for them, they were able to save their home for their family.
Additionally, we have partnered with local land owners around Alachua for them to host tiny homes on their property to make a passive income, enabling their families to decrease financial stress, and spend more time together as a family and even grow their own businesses.
We have hosted an estimated 3,000 guests in our tiny homes; people coming from all over the country to visit the natural fresh water springs in High Springs, to attend events in Alachua and Gainesville, or just passing through on a road trip and stopping for the night to stay in a tiny house.
Our guidebooks in our tiny homes recommend local businesses, restaurants, and shops to tourists, bringing business to the local area. We have partnered with local small business owners to create collaborations to support each others business. And we have paid over $10,000 in tourist tax to Alachua county last year alone.
Our business is not only creating a positive impact on surrounding small businesses and local shops, attracting tourists to the City of Alachua, employing local citizens and positively impacting the lives of the citizens of Alachua, it is also inspiring thousands of people from all over the country.
Now, the City of Alachua wants to shut down our business. They want us to get rid of our tiny homes, and take them off Airbnb. This would negatively impact not only our family, but the families of all of our partners, hosts, employees, the business owners we partner with and collaborate with, the local tourist industry, and the thousands of tourists each year that will never get to experience what the City of Alachua has to offer.
Out of thousands of guests, our tiny home guests have never once had a complaint from neighbors or caused any disturbance in the community, nor do they have any negative impact on the neighborhood or the surrounding areas. In fact, many of our neighbors drive by to curiously check out the tiny houses and tell us how cool they think they are!
Please sign this petition to convince Mr. Gib Coerper, Mayor of the City of Alachua, to allow our tiny homes to stay in this beautiful city, hosting and attracting thousands of guests from all over the country, supporting local businesses, contributing with taxes paid to improve Alachua County, and allow us to continue to inspire others with our business. As Alachua continues to grow and expand, we believe our tiny houses provide a great benefit to the city and people.
