Tell Giant to Make Public Announcements in Their Stores Regarding Dogs Left in Hot Cars

The Issue

After shopping at Giant in Urbana, Maryland on an extremely warm day in September, I came back out to my car and in the car next to me was a dog. The front windows were cracked open and the back windows were about 1/3 open. I was only in the store for about 25 minutes and my car was like a sauna. I put my groceries in my car and went back to tell a Giant employee about the dog, hoping they would make an announcement in the store. I was directed to the Customer Service desk where I was told they would NOT make an announcement for fear that the customer would be angry or upset. Another employee came over and said she would make the announcement but after a few minutes, she too decided against it. I went back out to the car with the dog and it was clear that he was extremely hot. As I was standing there a store manager came out, took down the license plate number and went back inside to make the announcement. I sat in my car and waited for the owner to come out and get their dog for about 10 minutes and no one came out. I went back into Giant and asked if an announcement had been made and I was told no. The manager also did NOT want to upset the customer. I was told if it had been a child an announcement would have been made. I called the non-emergency police number and reported the car. Unfortunately the police didn't show up by the time the lady came out and left. That dog was in a hot car for over 40 minutes and Giant wouldn't do a thing to help this poor dog. Something need to be done.  Something needs to be done!!! It's horrifying that this poor dog could've died because Giant didn't want to upset the customer. I am outraged and sad that an animals life isn't worth an announcement. Please help me get this policy changed.  Tell Giant to make public announcements regarding animals left in hot cars! Thank you!
