Get the Philly Lawyers Off Our Skyline

Get the Philly Lawyers Off Our Skyline
The Issue
For over a century, the billboard on Mt. Washington has been part of Pittsburgh’s story.
From 1938 through the mid-1950s, it was the Iron City Beer sign - a neon landmark that lit up the skyline, showed up in postcards, wedding photos, and movie scenes, and became a symbol of the city. In the decades that followed, the space featured other local giants like Alcoa, Miles Laboratories, and Bayer.
In 2020, Iron City returned to the hill for the first time in decades, but in January 2025, the sign was surprisingly replaced by a Philly-based slip and fall firm.
It’s the first time in decades the space has gone to an out-of-town service business - not a brand built here, not something tied to our daily life in Pittsburgh, but a billboard to drum up clients from the other side of the state. They even slapped on a Steelers logo like we wouldn’t notice. We did. Just like we noticed the official Flyers merch on their site.
And this is all happening just as Pittsburgh is investing nearly $600 million to redd up dahntahn in time for the 2026 NFL Draft - upgrades to Point State Park, a Market Square refresh, and new Arts Landing to name a few. The whole country will have cameras pointed at our skyline… and the backdrop will be a billboard for a Philly law firm?!
Why This Matters
- It's part of Pittsburgh’s identity: for generations, that hillside has been lit by local names we’re proud of.
- It’s one of the first things people see in tahn, so It should scream “Pittsburgh,” not “Hurt in an Accident? Call Philly!”
- Once you give it away, you don’t get it back: Every time we hand over something that’s ours, it chips away at what makes it special (like Nutting's Buccos).
What We Want: Put a real Pittsburgh brand back up there. One that’s been here for us, and will be for years to come.
