Today, the 20th of December, would have been TeeJay’s 33rd birthday.
Instead of celebrating his life with him, we continue to carry the weight of his absence and the responsibility of seeking justice on his behalf. We want to take a moment to thank everyone who has stood with us and to share an update on the progress of the case.
Since the matter came to public attention, there have been five court sittings, in addition to one scheduled date that was lost to a public holiday.
At the first sitting on 16 April 2025, no progress was made as the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) advice was not yet available.
At the second sitting on Thursday, 29 May 2025, the DPP’s advice was presented. The charge of manslaughter was not recommended; instead, the charge of reckless driving was retained. A new State Prosecutor took over the matter. Bail for the defendant was continued on existing terms, and the case was adjourned to 9 July 2025.
On Wednesday, 9 July 2025, proceedings could not commence due to the absence of the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), reportedly on official assignment. The matter was adjourned to 20 August 2025, which was later declared a public holiday (Isese Day), and the court did not sit.
The next sitting was held on Wednesday, 8 October 2025. Once again, the IPO was absent. However, a prosecution witness who was present was called to testify and gave his account of the accident. The matter was adjourned to 18 December 2025 for continuation.
Last Thursday, 18 December 2025, the case was adjourned to Wednesday, 25 February 2026, due to the bereavement of the State Prosecutor.
While progress has been slow and emotionally exhausting, we remain committed to seeing this process through. TeeJay deserved more time, more life, and more birthdays. As we remember him today, we also reaffirm our resolve to pursue accountability and justice in his name.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support us, share our story, and stand with us in this difficult journey. Your voices matter, and they give us strength.
