Get Suzanne Sevakis an Honorary Degree from Georgia Tech
Why this petition matters
The subject of the Netflix documentary "Girl in the Picture", Suzanne Sevakis survived years of abuse from her abductor and managed to remain a loved, happy, and intelligent young girl that was offered placement with a full ride to the Georgia Institute of Technology to study Aerospace Engineering in 1986.
Suzanne was kidnapped when she was only five years old, and was raised with immense emotional, physical, and sexual abuse by her abductor as her "father". Despite horrendous conditions, Suzanne thrived in school as a member of ROTC, part of the gifted program, in the science club, and an overall brilliant student and young girl. Her friends remember her as charismatic, kind, outgoing, and smart - despite the horrors that awaited her at home everyday.
Suzanne was able to receive admission into the prestigious Georgia Tech in 1986, and was ecstatic to pursue her future in Aerospace Engineering - arguably one of the hardest majors at the school. However, she discovered she was pregnant and her abductor forced her to give up her acceptance.
Suzanne remained under abuse until she was tragically murdered at age 20.
We are hoping to create awareness of Suzanne's life and legacy and work to have her awarded with an Honorary Degree from Georgia Tech, where she had such a bright future ahead of her despite what she had faced.
