Get Rid of Lightspeed

Get Rid of Lightspeed
The Issue
Kids across Denton ISD use chromebooks for learning in school. We use things like HAC, Canvas, and IXL. These things we do that we could just do on paper, or on a whiteboard. However, until recently, kids have also always been able to listen to music on Spotify and Youtube. Unfortunently, the district has recently installed lightspeed on all our chromebooks. The student body understands that district wants whats best for us, but they are acting like an overprotective parent. That is not their job! The districts job is to help learn in the safest and most effective way. If kids are bored, not paying attention, and goofing off, how are they supposed to learn? Teachers used to give students assignments related to watching a video, especially for science, but now the process for them to unblock a single video for students to access on their own is too much, and most teachers don't bother to teach the way they've always taught. An unnamed teacher at my school told us she's fine with us listening to music on sites that the district hasn't found yet, and that she won't say anything to admin/district. In this same class we were looking up pictures for something, but lightspeed blocked the pictures of FREAKING DOTS CONNECTED BY LINES...... This teacher then told us she herself doesn't like lightspeed that much! If the students and teachers (mostly I'm not speaking for everyone) don't like it, then why do admin and district insist on using it? I'm not saying get rid of all security on student's chromebooks, but not something so extreme! Find a middle point! Or make it so teachers can actually turn lightspeed off easily for a certain thing, like youtube, or images that don't come from ADOBE EXPRESS. Anyways thanks for any support y'all! Me personally I'm not that upset about this but it's kind of annoying to be honest.
