My mom and I had conversation about dress code and it eventually led to her saying that as students we should listen to whatever the teacher says. But why should  we listen to something that isn’t fair.  Clothing is not only used to cover up your body but also as a form of self expression. The constant reminder of “that’s inappropriate” or “you can’t wear that” is essentially telling students that their body shouldn’t be shown, whether that’s the intent or not. I mean obviously you shouldn’t come to school in a bra and underwear, and certain rules i understand but I feel like the showing of the midriff or shoulders shouldn’t be as big of an issue as schools make it seem. Taking students out of class or interrupting them during a class is more disruptive and distracting.  So please sign this petition to get rid of dress codes. We don’t have to be 21 to be able to think for ourselves.(cuz according to my mom I can’t dewar what I want and have to listen to adults until I’m 21) Let’s also normalize the fact that an adult commenting on what a minor is wearing is really weird because it’s indirectly about our bodies and parents should be concerned.
