Get rid of 3rd class medical exams for Private pilot's.

The Issue

Third class medical exam allow a private pilot to operate an aircraft up to 6000 pounds and max compacity of pilot plus 5 passengers. These exams are similar to that of a commercial pilot and transport pilot, however a little less stringent. It is important to note that it is easy to get DOT clearance to drive a 80,000-pound semi but not an FAA medical. One could drive a 15-passenger van full of kids but not fly their family on vacation due to a number of disqualifying conditions or use of certain medications. There are so many unapproved medical conditions that get denied that could be great pilots. On the same topic of medical denials, if someone has stress, situational depression, or a number of other diagnoses, they could not pursue their passion of flying. On a side not the FAA needs to address the mental health of commercial pilots, most will not seek help due to the fact that they would be grounded and unable to fly for a period of time.

Based off the FAA's own studies on Basic Med, the safety has not significantly changed in its first five years. Basic med, after initial FAA AME certification one could use their primary care physician to certify that you are in good enough health to fly a private aircraft. It makes sense that one would go to the physician that sees them on a regular basis to be able to certify that the private pilot is in good enough health to fly a private aircraft. The American Medical Association seem to have a grip on the FAA and will not release the 3rd class medical to family physicians.

The FAA was tasked a number of years ago to make changes to their policies by federal government and was due out last year, but due to the Covid they were delayed in their process. Summer of 2023 is when the proposed rule changes are due out. Now is the time to act to get the FAA to stop limiting healthy people from participating in a hobby or passion. Why is the FAA allowed to pick winners and losers to whom they allow to follow their dream. Why continue to allow the FAA to be pilot's physicians and determine/ limit medical choices for pilots. Thank you for considering signing this petition, as it is my hope and prayer to affect change on these policies.
