Rabbits are one of the worlds most misunderstood pets. Rabbits are typically explained as an “easy pet,” however, that is not the case. Yearly rabbit care costs hundreds if not thousands of dollars, and it is extremely difficult to find an exotic veterinarian that understands proper rabbit care.
As apart of the House Rabbit Society, I strive to educate those who are not as knowledgeable about their special care. While volunteering there, one of the things I was taught was NEVER to buy rabbit food, toys, or even treats at the pet store, because most products have items that are toxic to rabbits, or that they are unable to digest. I tested this out myself by going to my local pet store, and seeing what they put in their products. I was very disturbed at what I found. 
Most products that are labeled “safe for rabbits” contain foods in them that they can not properly digest; for example, seeds and corn. Both can send your rabbit into GI stasis, which in layman’s terms means that their gut stops working. Clothes or cloths also labeled “safe for rabbits” also contained products not suitable for their digestion (rabbits can best digest 100% cotton materials, no polyester!!!). 
My point is, manufacturers of pet store companies do not care about if the product is safe for your rabbit or not; they just want to make a profit. This goes beyond just rabbits, but it is most common with them. We need to have pet store manufacturers actually care about what they are putting in their product. We need to be the change these little helpless creatures need to survive and have a happier and healthier life.
