Get Mike Miles Out!

Get Mike Miles Out!
The Issue
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens of the Houston Independent School District (HISD) who urge the Board of Trustees to take immediate action regarding the leadership of Superintendent Mike Miles. We believe his management style and decisions have had a detrimental impact on the district’s students, teachers, and community.
Lack of Teacher and Staff Support: Mike Miles' top-down approach has disregarded the voices and expertise of educators, leading to low morale and burnout within the district. Teachers and staff members are essential to providing quality education, and their well-being must be prioritized. We demand a leadership style that values collaboration, transparency, and respect for those who work directly with students.
Inequitable Resource Distribution: Miles has made decisions that seem to neglect the needs of underfunded schools and their students. Critical resources, including access to extracurricular programs, specialized teachers, and adequate classroom materials, have been unevenly distributed across the district. We demand a fair and equitable distribution of resources, ensuring that every student in HISD has access to the same high-quality education.
Disruptive School Closures and Restructuring: Miles’ actions regarding the closure of schools in marginalized neighborhoods have created instability for students and their families. These closures disproportionately affect low-income communities and contribute to the growing achievement gap. We demand that any future decisions regarding school restructuring and closures be made with full community input and prioritize the long-term success of students over cost-cutting measures.
We, the undersigned, call upon the HISD Board of Trustees to review Superintendent Mike Miles' performance and take action to ensure that HISD’s leadership is focused on providing the best possible education for all students, supporting teachers and staff, and prioritizing equity and community involvement in decision-making.
Sincerely,
Emily Wheeler
