Recently, Khalid El-Amin was up against Ricky Davis for the Minneapolis North Boys' Varsity Basketball Head Coaching position. Ricky Davis was selected for the role. This decision was made by Principal Mauri Friestleben.

El-Amin is a Minneapolis North Alumni, achieving accolades such as 3x State Championship winner, Mr. Basketball and McDonalds All American. NCAA Championship winner with the UCONN Huskeys, former NBA and European League player and Current High School Boys' Varsity Basketball team with a very impressive record. Coach El-Amin would have taken a %50 pay cut in the name of returning to his own community to coach these boys not only in basketball, but in life. A life that he understands and has had to navigate personally.

Many people in the community are hurt by this decision and have questions as to how this happened. Was this in the best interest of the community and the players, or is it a move to advance an agenda of "change" at North High School? The boys at North High deserve to have a coach from the community help them navigate life and show them the sky is the limit even when coming where they are from. Coach El-Amin is just that. He has navigated these same streets and circumstances that these boys face on a daily basis. The positive impact that would have on their lives is immeasurable.
