Get Katy Perry & Nicki Minaj to Put "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" on Spotify

The Issue

In 2010, VH1 put together a Diva's Salute the Troops event where several stars gathered to perform and honor the men and women who were serving our country (the United States). Notable performers that night included Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj, arguably two of the most influential artists of the 2010s. These two collaborated and gave the performance of a lifetime with their cover of the 1983 Cyndi Lauper hit, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." People from ages 8 to 80 know this song and it always seems to bring everyone together singing and dancing, without fail. That's exactly what it did that night for all the troops and their families, friends, and loved ones.

Katy and Nicki's performance of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" can be found on YouTube, with 2.8 million views and counting. Clips from this performance have also gone viral on TikTok. It goes without saying that these two artists and this performance in particular are still reaching people 13 years later. The only sad thing is that the song is not available on other music streaming platforms like Spotify. Imagine how great it would be to have the ability to turn this song on at any moment without needing access to WiFi or be able to add it to the perfect party, sleepover, or hype playlist? What would be even better is if Katy and Nicki got together and did a formal recording and release of the song! They've been associated for over a decade now with the release of Katy's song "Swish Swish" back in 2017 that featured Nicki and were even spotted together at the most recent Met Gala.

For Katy fans (Katycats), Nicki fans (Barbz), and music lovers alike, putting this cover of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" on Spotify would be a game changer. It's the duo we never knew we needed on an iconic pop song. Not to mention, it may spark some inspiration for another Diva's Salute the Troops type event. Recording and releasing an official version of the song could also be an opportunity to raise money for veterans and veteran support. At the very least, it would bring joy and excitement to millions around the world who love and appreciate this song. See for yourself here: https://youtu.be/UDbKI5cTyRM
