I've been a fan of westerns for many years and the prospect of Horizon thrilled me. This great saga telling these epic and stirring stories on the open plains that were sure to culminate brilliantly. Very few things like this have been attempted and that just shows the ambition and passion of Costner himself. Dances with Wolves is so transformative and amazing and reflects such splendor and intelligence.

Horizon was going to embody and elevate so much of what that movie did while also telling a larger further reaching story. Horizon inevitably (to me at least) financially failed due to a lack of audience interest in westerns, being 3 hrs and R-rated, and a shallow marketing effort. Horizon Chapter 2 was set for release in August, but has effectively been shelved. I created this petition to show support for the series and help demonstrate that there is an audience for this type of ambition. We need more of it among artists. Please share this with others who want to support artist ambitions because that to me is what the sequel being postponed embodies.

Whether you've seen the movie, enjoy Westerns, or have some appreciation for artists ambitions, This series being essentially canned is emblematic of a frequent lack of faith many studios have and an unfortunate truth that because there' no billion dollar audience, there can't be a movie. This may be the tenth franchise in the past 10 years to fail because an audience couldn't be created regardless of quality.

I had the great opportunity to actually go to the Santa Barbara Film Festival and see Chapter 2 of this Saga. It is the only time the movie has been publicly screened in the U.S.. It was a moving and exciting movie and does some really dynamic and major things with the characters. I want everyone else to see this movie. Give it to the world. Even if it's a financial disappointment like the first movie, what truly and ultimately matters about art to me is that it is how the artist intended and that people get a chance to see it.

Horizon is beautiful, powerful, intelligent, passionate, fun, epic, emotional, and was an exercise in ambition and love. It was brought to wreck and ruin in its opening weeks, but it was just getting STARTED. Having seen the second one, I know even better that it was going somewhere exhilarating and brilliant. With your help, This near-dead passion project could be resurrected. I've heard so much love for this movie, but it needs to be seen in numbers. I hope you liked Horizon and want to support a sequel: it would be a sign that passion projects are still something people could want to see.
