Suicide does not discriminate on whose life it takes. No matter age, color, race, income, etc. Indiana is 25th in the top 25 states with highest suicide death rate with 16.4 per 100K people being the statistic for Hoosiers.

Sadly, more than 1000 hoosiers have died by suicide every year since the year 2016. Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death overall in the state and the second leading cause of death of hoosiers aged 10 to 34. 

Unfortunately, much like many of you I have seen the effects of suicide. As I have lost friends and even family to suicide. But what does it do to us as a family? As a community?

 According to a study done by the IPMI (International Parking & Mobility Institute) 41% of parking organizations have experienced a suicide at their facility and 10% have experienced an attempt.

I petition that we put signs in all major parking lots of colleges, schools, malls, parking garages, etc. that have the Hope Hotline number on them, 988. We need to remind Hoosiers that they are not alone in their battle and that there is help out there.

Recently, I seen a sign in a parting lot located in Elkhart, Indiana that sparked my idea for this petition to get these signs all over the state of Indiana. These signs should be in every parking lot as a reminder and to show awareness to this cause.
