The Issue

In our county, the number of stray dogs and cats continues to rise, yet the only shelter available to house these vulnerable animals is situated miles away in the city. This poses a significant problem for the dogs, cats, and our community. The city shelter is overwhelmed with demand and cannot adequately accommodate the growing number of stray dogs and cats from the city and does not accept animals from our rural areas. Without a local facility, these animals often go unnoticed, leading to unfortunate circumstances such as accidents or poor health due to lack of immediate care.

Establishing a local animal shelter dedicated to stray dogs and cats would not only address the pressing issue of overpopulation but also provide a safe haven for these animals to receive the care

Chester County is facing a real crisis with stray animals, and it’s affecting every part of our community — families, farmers, and the animals themselves. This is why the Paws for Life petition is so important, and why every single signature matters.

We’ve already seen heartbreaking losses.

My neighbor’s lost their pet  he was  killed in their own backyard by a stray.

My service dog was attacked while I was simply taking him out to potty.

Another neighbor’s dog was mistaken for a stray and shot.

And our farmers have suffered thousands of dollars in losses — including a $4,000 cow and entire flocks of chickens wiped out.

These animals didn’t ask to be born into this. They didn’t ask to be dumped, abandoned, or left unspayed and unneutered. They are scared and desperate, and our community is paying the price.

Paws for Life is working to create a real solution — affordable spay/neuter, a safe place for strays, and protection for families and livestock. But to qualify for grants and funding, we need 501(c)(3) status, and to get that, we need strong community support.
