Everyday is the same, hauling heavy back packs to school just to take them on and off and on and off again to get into school. We have to take out binders, laptops, keys and still the machine will beep just for the teachers to find nothing.

Not only is the process long and annoying but also completely pointless. Anything containing metal you hand over is not searched and if they find anything that could’ve made it go off they end the search. There is no way these machines will prevent weapons or other contraband in school. What they do prevent is children eating breakfast and showing up to class on time. Some students even have to go through the entire process several times a day. It is exhausting and serves no purpose but for the illusion of safety.

School is meant to be for learning, So why are our schools implementing inadequate measures to “keep school safe” at the cost of our students repeatedly showing up to classes late and being tired and hungry in class when they deserve the energy to be enthusiastic about school.
