Get Coyotes Out Of Our Neighborhoods

Get Coyotes Out Of Our Neighborhoods
The Issue
As a Californian, concerned neighbor, and pet owner, I, along with a majority of Los Angeles County and SoCal, are tired of being told to “coexist” with the coyotes that are invading our neighborhoods. This problem was created because the government granted to build in coyote habitats, and now us citizens have to suffer with the consequences of it. Why do we have to suffer with this problem, when we weren’t the ones that created it?
Here is how our communities are being affected:
- We can’t have our cats and dogs outdoors anymore. They are attacked and killed even when supervised.
- The coyotes are seen not only at night, but during the day and afternoon as well, putting more risks to our pets and kids.
- 95% of the time a pet goes missing, it is eaten now.
- They are hunting in packs now, making them more dangerous.
- People are stressing out in their own homes each day having to be 100% vigilant with their pets because it’s not often their fault when they get loose.
- Stray cats and stray dogs are also being eaten, which they do not deserve.
- Pet owners and children are traumatized having to hear the screams of cats and dogs being mauled.
- It is now common to see cat and dog body parts on lawns and in the streets.
- People are afraid to walk their dogs now, with some cases happening where people’s dogs were snatched and killed by coyotes despite them fighting them off / trying to scare them off.
- There are some cases of people being attacked while trying to protect their dogs while on a walk.
- A majority of coyotes are becoming unaffected by hazing, adding more danger.
- People don’t walk with their kids around the neighborhood at night anymore, with cases of coyotes stalking children.
- People and children are being attacked. Though the cases are few, they will only get worse the longer this isn't taken care of.
- People have expressed their frustration of how they pay rent and taxes only to have their streets and lawns invaded by coyotes, not being able to enjoy the outdoors anymore.
- The elderly don’t want to walk around the neighborhood anymore, which they need for exercise and mental health.
*These are cases directly taken from our citizens, and can be read in these comments, and on posts on social media.*
Here is what we want: We want action to be taken to have these coyotes captured and returned to wildlife, and that is our top priority, with the very last resort being euthansia. The latter is NOT the resolution we are asking for, just the last solution we are willing to take as it gets worse the more time passes. Whatever it takes to protect our children, our neighbors, our pets, and our strays. We do not want to be told what to do and what not to do to avoid them, and blamed for our pets being eaten and kids being attacked. For the sake of our safety and respect of our locals, get them OUT of our neighborhoods. We should not be living like this. Change needs to happen, not later, but now.
