Petition big business to play and pay for Aussie music instead of annoying ‘on hold’ tunes

The issue

Like many artists, the Australian music industry has been on its knees during the pandemic.

One smart solution is for Australian corporations to give local musicians a platform to showcase their original songs to their customers waiting on the phone for an operator to answer.

Currently, many companies use royalty-free music on a repetitive loop designed to make customers hang up or incur a persistent earworm!

If you have to wait for hours to speak to a company representative wouldn’t you rather be entertained while supporting Australian musicians doing it tough?

If so, please sign this petition to support #HoldAussieMusic.

The idea came to Karen Eck – an entertainment industry publicist – when she was left on hold for 7 hours and 19 minutes with an airline listening to the same 15-second tune on repeat.

It got her thinking: ‘what if the music was the best of Australia’s emerging and established artists? We could save customers’ sanity and support the music industry at the same time.’

It’s only fair that musicians are compensated via royalty fees, particularly as many have lost their livelihoods over the past 18 months with Covid decimating the industry.

It's time to #HoldAussieMusic and support our artists and #entertainment industry. Let’s help Aussie music thrive!

Petition Update: Karen Eck's #HoldAussieMusic is pleased to partner with ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) in its campaign “Our Soundtrack Our Stories”.

APRA AMCOS and OneMusic - which handle the licensing of Australian music - are fully supportive of the #HoldAussieMusic initiative.

We are united in our efforts to put diverse Australian artists not only on call waiting systems but more broadly in the commercial and mainstream landscape.
