To the Milwaukee Brewers, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Uecker family, and sports fans everywhere,
In 2023, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce introduced a brand new category for its iconic Walk of Fame attraction: Sports Entertainment. Legendary football player and television host Michael Strahan received the inaugural award, where at his ceremony, Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez stated that “sports fans will be thrilled to be able to see their favorite sports figures who are involved in the entertainment business receive their stars. Michael’s extensive background in sports and sportscasting makes him the perfect choice to add to the famed sidewalk.”
In 2025, Bob Uecker passed away at 90 years old. That day, sports entertainment lost one of its greatest. The man with exactly 700 fewer career home runs than Babe Ruth himself, yet who was somehow dubbed "Mr. Baseball" anyway. The man who broadcast Milwaukee Brewers games for 54 seasons despite never signing a written contract with the franchise—only handshake deals. The man who became a national favorite on over 60 Tonight Show guest spots with Johnny Carson. The man who Andre the Giant playfully choked on-screen at Wrestlemania IV in 1988 because of course that happened. The man who originated on-screen characters like Harry Doyle in Major League and George Owens in Mr. Belvedere. The man who entered the National Radio Hall of Fame back in 2001, over 20 years before his official retirement in 2024. The man with TWO statues at American Family Field, the Brewers' home stadium. Universally beloved, Vin Scully himself shared in a 2012 video tribute, "In fact, I can't say the name Bob Uecker without smiling." A terrazzo star along this revered stretch of road would celebrate not only the legacy of Bob Uecker himself, but the spirit of sports entertainment altogether. The creator of the Walk of Fame, E.M. Stuart, originally proposed the idea to "maintain the glory of a community whose name means glamour and excitement in the four corners of the world." For Bob, hearing his name associated with glamour might lead directly into a classic one-liner about his career-ending bar fight, where he got smashed in the head with a beer bottle and released by the Braves 10 days later because he wasn't that good anyway.
Glamour? Never. Excitement? Always. Glory? Forever.
With this petition, we ask the Milwaukee Brewers organization, under chairman and principal owner Mark Attanasio, to formally pursue Bob Uecker's posthumous nomination for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Sports Entertainment, once he becomes eligible. This unparalleled honor requires an $85,000 sponsorship fee, which covers the creation and installation of the honoree's star, as well as the continued maintenance of the other stars along the walkway. We also humbly request the blessing of the Uecker family to carry this campaign forward.
Our hope is that Bob Uecker will one day receive this esteemed recognition, and that his family and loved ones will know that anyone walking down that street on any given day will always see his name on that star. Years down the road, a young baseball fan visiting Hollywood with his family may come across the name "Bob Uecker" etched in brass beneath his feet, search him on Google, watch some highlights, and learn something new about one of the definitive personalities in the history of the sport. If that kid is lucky, he'll never hear the phrase "juuuuuust a bit outside" the same way again.
