As a student and athlete from Glastonbury High School, I use the gym floor consistently throughout the week whether it’s for practice, games, lunch, or gym class. The gym floor at Glastonbury High School is old, slippery, and worn down. Our gym is one of the only gyms in the CIAC without a wooden basketball court. Our gym floor has so little grip it becomes dangerous for all sports and activities that take place on it. Let alone our poor gym our school is without a proper weight room. Our teams at the varsity level consistently perform subpar. One main reason to this is our lack of a proper weight room. While other teams grow and get better our children lack the proper needs to become great athletes. We need to raise our standards for this school and get the critical things all athletes need and deserve.

Our town is on the wealthier side of towns in the state yet our schools still lack things that are present in most schools throughout the state. With the amount of money, the town receives for the schools whether it’s the 2 million dollars in federal funding passed in the acts of Esser 1 and Esser 2 or the taxpayer money that all residents pay. We need to demand better standards for our schools.

My goal for this petition is to reach the most people possible in this town and help convince our athletic director and board of education to do what’s right for our community.
