I had presented Gering Public Schools a volunteer project of my own where everything such as equipment, seed, and man time was going to be donated to the high school for the areas behind the school so that the area would be presentable and usable for GHS athletics, classes, and the public. GPS did not really want to hear anything. I had explained everything that was to be done CORRECTLY, but the contractor that was hired did a very poor job by essentially doing everything incorrectly. By doing things incorrectly, IF the grass they planted, the area will look like a pasture and will be unusable. They did not even incorporate the seed into the ground, which has caused the seed to be blown away and eaten by birds. Other areas that should now have cool season grasses grown in it are either completely bare or covered in weeds. The new construction of the building is amazing, but the outside areas make the building look horrible. I have spoken to people that live around the high school and they suggested doing a petition as the GPS School Board remains to ignore everything. The people that live in the area have said that their families would love to use the area if it was done the right way. The way it is done now not only is a complete waste of GPS funds, but it will only cause a raise in maintenance costs down the road. The people of Gering voted for the new construction of the high school, please sign the petition so the outside doesn't ruin the looks and use of the high school. Again, I have come to the table to donate everything to do it the correct way by volunteering my knowledge and experience.
