Free North Avenue North apartments from the rising sophomores

Free North Avenue North apartments from the rising sophomores
The Issue
North Avenue North should not be designated to Sophomores. It is no secret that North Ave North is by far the best of the North Avenue apartments, with more consistent access to hot water, functional heaters, and most importantly, the shortest walk to main campus. Every year on-campus residents hope that their credit hours are enough to get them into the best building. I feel that it is unfair that rising second-years get to skip the whole cycle of waiting and immediately gain access to North. I understand the whole reason to create living communities for sophomores. I was in their place once, getting separated from my friends.
What I don’t understand is why North Ave North? It would be just as simple to designate South or West or even East for the new sophomore community. Can’t us upperclassmen at least enjoy our last years at Tech living in the best on-campus housing? Traditionally, seniority determines the quality of housing we get, and we all have had to struggle with the housing process year after year, taking those extra credits with the hopes of scoring a better apartment. Yet after all of this, we are literally in the same position we were last year or even a few more steps back. This was supposed to be our chance to finally live around our friends. Sure, this will create change for the future of the housing process, but is it worth it to ignore the happiness of multiple years of students that have already done their time in Tech’s convoluted housing system?
