Change the State Flag of Georgia

Did you know that Georgia's state flag is nearly identical to the first national flag of the Confederacy, the "Stars and Bars"? Yes, hiding in plain sight in public facilities across our beautiful state is an everlasting symbol of slavery and hate. This reminder of racism and treason against the United States, with the phrase "Justice" ironically scribbled on its face, flies over our State Capitol that is supposed to look out for the interests of all of the people of Georgia. We the people of Georgia, the United States, and beyond demand that our Georgia state flag be changed to a flag finally free of Confederate influence and inspiration.

This must be accomplished as our current Confederate-copy of a state flag both emboldens hate and and portrays Georgia as an intolerant state. We must change our state flag to a non-Confederate symbol of our state of which we all can be proud.

To anyone who makes the argument that we ought to keep the current Georgia state flag because it is our "history," this part is for you. We all know that is not really why you want our flag to be the Confederate "Stars and Bars.” It is racism, plain and simple. Let us not forget that the confederacy were treasonous to break from the union. Let us not forget that they broke from the union for one reason and one reason alone - Slavery. Flags can show history, such as the American flag with its 50 stars representing 50 states and 13 stripes representing the 13 original colonies. It is time to remove this hateful, racist history to something of which the people of Georgia can all be proud. So with that, let's all sign and share this petition and get a state flag that truly represents us, the people of Georgia!
