Open Georgetown University

The Issue

Georgetown was the dream school for many of their students, and their families were thrilled at the prospect of their sons and daughters attending such an  amazing institution. But they are not attending in a meaningful way which is having a significant impact on their education and mental well being.   The negative social and emotional effects of remote learning are taking a toll.  It is likely that these students will be less engaged members of the Georgetown University for the long-term.  Students must have the opportunity to be a part of the Georgetown Community  and the benefit of in-person learning which is only truly possible if they are on campus.

Most universities have found a way to safely open their campus to students with populations larger and densities equal or greater than Washington D.C.  Unfortunately, COVID-19 will not be gone anytime soon, and we need Georgetown's leadership to get their students who wish to be on campus to be allowed to do so no later than January.

Finally, we ask that Georgetown's Administration take a critical look at its COVID -19 communications with a view to greater transparency and frequency for students and their families that support them.
