Riverside County Turning Away Pets

Riverside County Turning Away Pets

The Issue

Now more than ever our pets need protection.

Mr. Johnson,

Please consider not turning away found pets at your animal shelters and continue picking up strays off our streets as well as keep our night drops open.

Our pets are being hit by cars, cold, hungry, stolen, attacked by predators and sold as a result of your shelters refusing intakes and telling finders to keep them. Currently, your Riverside shelter is only taking in 3-4 dogs daily compared to previous 20-40. To make matters worse, Riverside County does NOT register the microchips they implant leaving many pets homeless when owners have taken the time to microchip at one of your animal shelters with false belief that they now have protection if lost.

Pets are not carriers of Covid-19 and should still be receiving protection from our shelter system. Your shelters normally help over 40,000 pets annually, we cannot afford to quit serving our pets. Your shelters remain open and employees are still receiving pay from the taxpayers, yet services are not being provided. Please help rectify this problem. Thank you
