The Issue

General Mills has labeled their cereal Cheerios as gluten free, which is a false claim the oats they use are cross contaminated in the manufacturing of the cereal the oats are not certified gluten free, I have read many posts on social media where people who have any kind of issues with gluten especially those with celiac disease, are saying they are getting sick from eating gluten free Cheerios it’s a big problem.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease where gluten causes damage to the small intestines and villi if foods with gluten are consumed, there are those that have silent symptoms with Celiac Disease, people believe that since they didn’t actually get sick that Cheerios is ok to eat since the box says gluten free, some are still eating it and causing damage to their small intestines and villi even without symptoms.

General Mills has removed the gluten free label in Canada, because of complaints that people are getting sick they need to do it in the United States. There are a lot of people diagnosed with gluten issues who have a false sense of security if they believe that a cross contaminated food is safe. If I’m successful in getting the gluten free label removed I’m hopeful that those with gluten issues will make safer cereal choices.
