gender equality

gender equality
The Issue
Equal rights, equal opportunities." ...
"Break the norm, defy the stereotype." ...
"Diversity drives innovation." ...
"Equal pay for equal work." ...
"Empower women, empower humanity."
Gender equality implies that the interests, needs and priorities of both women and men and girls and boys are taken into consideration, recognizing the diversity of different groups and that all human beings are free to develop their personal abilities and make choices without the limitations.
Gender equality is, first and foremost, a human right. It implies that women, men, boys and girls of all classes and races participate as equals and have equal value.
Rationale: The enactment of Republic Act No. 9710 (RA 9710) or the Magna Carta of Women fulfills the commitment of the government to the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) which the Philippines ratified in 1981. This Act categorically defines discrimination against women.
Gender equality makes communities safer, healthier and happier. Countries with greater gender equality are more connected and benefit immensely.
