Gender discrimination, we need your attention

The Importance of Fighting Gender Discrimination and Proposing Effective Solutions

Gender discrimination is a critical issue that affects various parts of life, like jobs and social roles. Despite the efforts that people are trying to make things better, old stereotypes still cause inequality in our society. This essay discusses how serious gender discrimination is and proposes solutions that foster gender equality.

Work is a commonplace that causes gender discrimination. Surveys show that over 90% of people think women are treated unfairly in promotions and job advancements. This bias against women shows that we need a change in how this bias treats women.

Additionally, national statistics show both progress and challenges. The National Gender Equality Index, which measures gender equality, went up from 71.3% in 2016 to 75.4% in 2021. However, gender equality is still a long way to go.

Regional disparities also highlight both increases in gender equality and challenges that we have to face forward. Jeju had the highest score at 79.7, followed by Seoul at 78.0. While Ulsan and Gyeongbuk had the lowest at 67.4 and 69.9. Even though Jeju got almost 80 scoring 79.7, no region got more than 80, meaning there is still more improvement to be done.

Media plays a crucial role in shaping our attitudes towards gender roles. Studies show that reality programs and TV shows can influence our gender recognition giving gender stereotypes. Also, these studies show that gender stereotype occurs regardless of the gender. As a result, media is crucial to making a gender-equal society.

In addition, discussions with my peers emphasize the media’s influence. While modern media sometimes shows men in skirts or crop tops, which is positive progress, stereotypes like men always in blue and women in pink in computer-generated imagery still exist.

Although the awareness of gender equality is progressing positively, deeply fixed stereotypes and ineffective government policies continue to interrupt progress. To combat gender inequality, it is necessary to challenge and remove these stereotypes.

To remove these stereotypes, media reforms are crucial. As mentioned before, media is affecting gender recognition significantly. Therefore, media platforms should actively show diverse and non-traditional images of gender roles. By showing people in non-stereotypical ways, media can play a crucial role in people’s gender perception.

By working to remove gender stereotypes, we can move towards real gender equality. Progress has been made, but we need to keep working hard for our goal. With your attention and actions, our society will improve a lot more than you think.
