Action Required Against: Gender Based Violence In Pakistan

Q. Who is affected?

In order to address the widespread problem of gender-based violence (GBV), which still affects people and communities throughout the world, we, the undersigned, are speaking up.  Women, girls, and marginalised genders are disproportionately affected by GBV, which causes them to suffer psychologically, emotionally, and physically.  These violent crimes ruin lives, upend families, and erode society's social cohesion.  In the terrible wake of a culture of secrecy and impunity, entire generations are impacted by issues ranging from honor-based violence and trafficking to sexual harassment and domestic abuse.

Q. What is at stake?

The advancement of our society as a whole is at risk, not only the safety of those affected.  GBV erodes the fundamental human right to live free from violence and fear, prolongs inequality, and impedes economic growth.  Survivors are frequently denied the chance to start over, and the toll on economies, judicial systems, and public health systems is enormous.  It is impossible to attain true equality, justice, or peace in a society that condones GBV.  To protect victims, bring criminals to justice, and destroy the systems that allow such crimes, swift, all-encompassing action is needed.

Q. Why is now the time to act?

The moment to take action is now.  Silence is no longer an option in this age of increased consciousness and international cooperation.  We call on communities, organisations, and governments to enact strict laws, help survivors, and inform the public on the underlying causes of gender-based violence.  Together, let's build a society free from violence, where all people, regardless of gender, may live.  In order to guarantee that future generations inherit a society based on equality, respect, and dignity for everyone, action must be taken immediately.
