Lincoln, Nebraska is currently unable to provide for the needs of medically fragile, high needs, medically complex, special needs children. The public school system is overcrowded and underfunded, and not equipped to handle the individualized attention that should be being given to care for the health and safety of our vulnerable children. We need a facility that is staffed with trained professionals who can provide for these children, from early childhood thru age 21 when they age out of the school system. Parents need a place for children to go and be safe, and to be confident that they are being properly cared for.

There needs to be nurses and therapists on staff, and therapy included in their daily routine activities. There needs to be an alternate curriculum to meet the behavioral and sensory needs of this population. Public schools are unsafe and insufficient for children who are not neuro-typical. We need to have a specialized location for these services. There is a dire need in our community.
