Today, kids all around Martin County are walking to school with major shortages of crossing guards. Yesterday Warfield Elementary sent notice that they wouldn’t have ANY crossing guards for the new few weeks due to staffing shortages.

When asked about deputies filling the positions temporarily, or paying the positions more than $15.00 an hour, or reinstating the incentivizing benefits package for this critical child safety role (more critical now that the district has stopped providing bus service to students who live within 2 miles of school) , the Sheriffs Department gives the same response: not enough resources.

We hope this resource-starved public safety agency enjoys their introduction party today- a brand new $3million 2020 H125 airbus helicopter!

Please contact your local representatives and  Martin County Sheriffs Office and demand they do their job protecting our kids on the way to school.

Also, please be extra careful when driving around at school start and release times.
