Protecting low-income families housing by opposing the California Senate Bill 50

The Issue

One of California's housing bills has resurfaced in January 2020 as well as the problems that come with it. What Senate Bill 50 would require would be for the cities to allow higher density housing near job and transit centers. Great, right?Absolutely not. Senate Bill 50 was framed meticulously in order to benefit homeowners, neighborhoods, and cities that weren't doing their part to combat the housing crisis. Given that the median price for a house in California is now $600,000 more than twice the national level and that a count of 151,278 individuals is homeless, imagine the results would be impacted if SB 50 were to be implemented further.

Furthermore, the bill has failed in previous years. But Wiener, the developer of SB 50, made a change to it allowing local governments to have two years with plans for increasing density while meeting the goals of increasing housing production near jobs and transit. This impacts the displacement of low-income families as well as "sensitive" neighborhoods. The lack of affordable homes or substantive in SB 50 leaves many vulnerable when it comes to real estate marketing, which has negatively undermined community stability for generations.

Ultimately, this is a very important issue to note into account as not only would impact the density of California but the way you will be living in the future.
