Reopen Salons, Barber Shops and other Personal Services.
The Issue
Those employed and self employed in the Beauty, Barber and Personal Services Industry have been without income for two months due to the Covid 19 shutdown. Many of these businesses are on the brink of collapse and their families are bordering on destitution. Few of the funds promised by our government at the State and Federal level have not been received. These individuals need to be allowed to return to work in order to support themselves and their families while also preventing their businesses from collapsing.
Licensed cosmetologists are mandated by the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology to receive a MINIMUM of 200 Technical Training hours in Health and Safety. In addition, the sanitation and disinfection practice and requirements of this industry are near clinical. You will not find another industry other than the medical field with a more thorough emphasis and process of sanitation and disinfection.
There is no valid reason that these individuals should not be allowed to return to performing the services that they have trained for extensively. In addition, they have passed a state government mandated written and practical exam demonstrating their confidence and ability to perform services in a safe and healthy manner.
With proper precautions, preparations and guidelines from the State Board, the risk of contracting the virus through a personal service contact is no more likely than conducting a payment transaction with a cashier at a grocery store.
These individuals, their families and their businesses have made some of the greatest sacrifices for their clients, community, state and nation. Now it’s time to give them the opportunity to rebuild their businesses and lives before they have nothing more to return to.
