We have some great news! Most hospitals in Los Angeles including Kaiser, Cedars, St. John's, UCLA and Good Samaritan are allowing partners in Labor and Delivery AND Postpartum. This is a victory!

But the rights of birthing people need to be secured for the future. In 1987, the CDC reported the rate of maternal death in childbirth was 7.2/100,000 live births. That number has been steadily increasing and in 2014 it hit 18/100,000. In 2016 John's Hopkins University published a study suggesting that medical mistakes are the third leading cause of death in the United States, behind heart disease and cancer. There are so many factors contributing to the increase in maternal mortality, but here's something we know...having a witness, someone to notify medical professionals when something is amiss is a critical factor in saving lives!

Let's turn our eyes to the national stage and support other efforts to make sure all families stay together in triage, labor & delivery, PACU, and postpartum!
