The California Department of Public Health made recommendations for hospital visitors this weekend, including:
The presence of a partner or support person is essential to the mental health of patients who are in labor and delivery. CDPH recommends that one support person be allowed to be present with the patient.

Giving birth during a pandemic is hard enough. It’s cruel to create further hardship by having unclear and changing visitor policies. I’m asking you to follow Governor Cuomo and require California hospitals to allow one support person per pregnant person through labor, delivery, and postpartum. Anything less than it is dangerous and inadequate. Furthermore, insurance coverage should not be the main reason people cannot find safer alternative to the hospital. Please require insurance companies to cover out-of-hospital births.
