From the outside looking in, of course the answers are clear. To the person in an abusive relationship we say “why dont you just leave?”, to the person who wants to lose weight we tell them “stop being lazy”, to the person spiraling into a deep depression we say “just shake it off”. But is it really that easy? Have you ever struggled to escape a toxic relationship, or lose weight, or pull yourself out of depression? 

Now imagine yourself at 15 and having to endure what seems to be monumental obstacles. That is exactly what Latasha Brown was when she committed murder, for which she was sentenced 37 years to life. 

Latasha is an adolescent offender who has more than doubled her lifespan in prison, and now, 18 years in, has become a well educated woman who has embarked on a journey that has helped countless youth inside and out of those prison walls. 

Many of us who stand with her in support of her release were once the very teens shes helped. She has been a key element in our growth and healing and we would like to see her regain her freedom.
