Open youth sports in California

Open youth sports in California

0 have signed. Let’s get to 25,000!

We are asking for you to support the safe reopening of outdoor youth sports in California starting on Friday, August 7. With over 100,000 outdoor games and 1.2 million outdoor practices occurring from May 10 - July 10, there is no scientific evidence or ample outbreak stories to suggest that outdoor youth sports have high transmission rates of COVID-19.

Games are already being played in 27 other states, including hot spot areas of Houston, Phoenix, Orlando, Atlanta, Myrtle Beach and Chattanooga.  An estimated 215 million close* contact moments between spectators, athletes, coaches and officials have likely transpired (*close = 6’ or closer).

This information, combined with the copious research on the positive health effects that youth sports provide for children ages 6-18, suggests that outdoor youth sports games and practices can occur safely while the COVID-19 pandemic caseloads rise or fall.

Youth sports provide 3 major health pillars:

1. Emotional resilience to combat feelings of loss.

2. Mental health improvement through challenge, discovery and fun.

3. Physical strength to extend your life.

Governor Newsom, please open outdoor youth sports in California starting on Friday, August 7.  In addition, we are requesting that the Governor makes a public statement of his thoughts by Friday, July 19.

If you agree with reopening youth sports and getting kids back playing please sign this petition.
