Call to Governor Newsom to release inmate Terry Bell, sentenced as a child, now he's 38.

The Issue

Terry Bell is a 38 years old man incarcerated at California State Prison Los Angeles California. Raised by his grandparents, he remained clear from gangs, but unfortunately he became a product of his environment. In January 2002 while Terry was a 17 year old high school student, he was given an ultimatum in which his silence led to his arrest and conviction of murder. He was sentenced as a juvenile to L.W.O.P. (Life without parole) signifying he would never experience life in society as anything more than a child.

Terry has spent more time incarcerated than he has in society, yet he refuses to be a prison statistic. While incarcerated, Terry has been an exemplary prisoner, achieving six (6) Associate of Arts degrees, and a Bachelor of Arts degree through Cal State Los Angeles, majoring in Communication. Through rehabilitative classes he mentors the men on his facility in their quest for growth and reparation.

He mentors children through youth diversion group C.R.O.P, (Convicts Reaching Out to People) where the youth receive the truth and are able to view prison from the inside, so that they can value life outside. In addition, he serves as a Paws For Life rescue dog trainer and Coordinator to abused, abandoned, and sheltered pups.

Terry has devoted his life to making amends, and he has never received a disciplinary write-up while in prison. Terry has dedicated himself to following rules and becoming the best version of himself despite being told he will never go home at 17 years old.

On July 28, 2019, his grandfather passed away. With his grandmother being 90 years old, and having heart disease, he is afraid that he will lose the only woman who has always been like a mother to him. His grandmother often tells him, "I'm tired, but I'm waiting on the good Lord to bring you home". With Covid-19 as an additional threat, which has proven to spread rapidly in prison, his fear level rises with his uncertainty of who this virus will effect first.

Terry is very caring and uses his experience and understanding of trauma as a motivator to continue helping others.

Change doesn't take a lifetime; with 20 years behind bars, Terry is proof of this.

Please join our call to the Governor's office!!!!! Change isn't easy, but it can be done!!!!!!

Change can happen, and for Terry, it has happened, and it is happening.

Where there is Hope, there is an opportunity for CHANGE!

Please join our call to the Governor, by signing this petition for the release of Terry Bell.
