CALIFORNIA TAMIL HERITAGE DAY

An application to proclaim the day of April 14 as Tamil Heritage Day.

Tamils began migrating to California as early as the 1950s. Since that time, Tamil Californians have made significant contributions to the growth and prosperity of California.

April 14 is an important day for Tamil Californians. The Tamil New year, called as ‘Tamil Puthaandu’, begins on April 14.

By proclaiming the day of April 14 as Tamil Heritage Day, the State of California recognizes the valuable contributions that Tamil Californians have made to California’s social, economic, political and cultural fabric.

Tamil Heritage Day is an opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about the inspirational role that Tamil Californians have played and continue to play in communities across California.

Therefore, as a Tamil Californian, I hereby request that the State of California, enacts as follows:
Tamil Heritage Day
1. The day of April 14 in each year is proclaimed as Tamil Heritage Day.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives the State of California consent.
Short title
3. The short title of this Act is the Tamil Heritage Day Act.
